At long last! The Ratio Six has earned certification by the rigorous Specialty Coffee Association. This isn’t just a gold star. The SCA puts coffee makers in consideration through a gauntlet of tests, insisting on some of the highest standards in the game. Among them: that the “Golden Cup” yield, a coffee-to-water ratio of 55 grams per liter, which must be produced within a 10 percent margin of error, and with water brewed between 195 and 205 degrees Fahrenheit. Naturally, the Six passed all these tests with aplomb.
One of our favorite new growth segments is that of coffee professionals, who tell us they’re putting our machines in their shops, their homes, and their Airbnbs. Here’s a fun video we just released with master roaster Nolan Hirte of Portland’s Proud Mary Coffee, where he waxes on the effort he’s made to simplify coffee for his guests — by freeze-drying individual portions of coffee to make a half-batch with the Six that’s in his riverfront home.
As Jesse Raub of Ruby Colorful Coffees puts it: “The Ratio Six is how I brew coffee every morning. The coffee I get from this brewer is so good that I’ve completely forgotten how to make pour-overs at home.”
Our raison d’etre is to make coffee machines that produce a quality every bit as high as the coffee shop, so having the SCA’s stamp of approval is a huge accolade for Ratio. It means our customers don’t have to take our word for it, to wonder if they’re missing out, enjoying coffee in the comforts of their own kitchens, living rooms, home offices. In achieving SCA certification, the Ratio Six joins a cadre of excellent coffee makers. We’re humbled to be on the list.
